The electric car brand Polestar has presented its first SUV to the public; the Polestar 3.

The Polestar 3 will take on the Tesla Model Y and is available to order online now, with first deliveries in late 2023.

The new family EV SUV starts with a motor on each axle, giving it all-wheel drive, but with a rearward power alignment for a sportier feel.

The standard 3 makes a total of 489PS and 840Nm of torque, while the optional Performance Pack version (£5,600) boosts that to 517PS and 910Nm.

That means the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.7 seconds for the Performance Pack model or five seconds for the standard car.

That’s not a major concern for Tesla, but the 3’s large 111kWh battery with a generous range of up to 379 miles will be.

Polestar promises a long list of standard features in the Polestar 3 and few options to keep things simple.

All versions come with air suspension, a glass roof, full LED lighting inside and out, retractable door handles and 21-inch alloy wheels.

There’s also a standard touchscreen infotainment system running on Google’s Android.

Polestar’s Plus Pack and Pilot Pack are fitted as standard in the first model year, but will incur additional costs later.

These packages include things like a slick Bowers & Wilkins stereo, soft-closing doors, and a heads-up display.

Polestar is also offering a 3D scanning option called the Pilot Pack from 2023, which uses three cameras and four ultrasonic sensors to capture the environment to increase safety and prepare for autonomous driving.

In addition to the additional performance, the Performance Pack brings with it a sportier air suspension tuning, unique 22-inch forged alloy wheels and “Swedish Gold” details.

The Polestar 3 will start at £79,900 for the fully loaded first models, but its entry price should drop later.
