Man charged with murder after father was ‘shot and doused in acid’

A MAN has been charged with murder after a father was shot and doused in acid.

Liam Smith, 38, was found dead in the street in Wigan after suffering a fatal gunshot wound.

Police have now charged Michael Hillier, 38, with murder.

He was remanded in custody before appearing in Tameside Magistrates’ Court today.

A murder investigation was launched after Liam’s body was discovered on November 24.

Officers had rushed to the scene near a school in Wigan, Greater Manchester.

Kilburn Avenue, Shevington has been sealed off and an urgent medical alert has been issued.

Greater Manchester Police later revealed that Liam was the victim of an acid attack and was fatally shot.

His family said in a statement: “Liam was kindhearted, funny, the life and soul of the party.

“He was the most devoted father, beloved son, brother, grandson and uncle.

“He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.”
