ITV and Channel 4 appear to have suffered a major outage preventing viewers from watching live TV.
Thousands of reports were registered across the country.
The problem started around 3:00 p.m., according to DownDetector.com outage monitor
Some viewers complained about sound problems and blurry images on social media, while others claimed they couldn’t watch the channels at all.
“ITV has been so disrupted that there was no announcement as to why it happened,” wrote one viewer.
Responding to some complaints on Twitter, Freeview, which hosts ITV channels, stated, “We are currently aware of issues with ITV channels. We don’t have any further information yet. We recommend not to return. “
The outage comes amid warnings of a major geothermal storm in the northern hemisphere, with solar flares expected to disrupt power grids and satellites. It is not clear whether the failures are related.
ITV channel service appeared to be returning shortly after 4 p.m.
