YOUTUBER Grian has recreated a full scale model of Corfe Castle in Dorset with help from the National Trust to inspire children to learn more about its history.

The castle, which stands on the road between Wareham and Swanage, now stands in ruins.

But with the help of historian Alice Loxton and archaeologist Martin Papworth, Grian recreated what the castle would look like if it were still standing.

Grian shared the finished model with his Minecraft-loving audience on YouTube, where he has almost 8 million subscribers.

The National Trust has chosen to partner with the popular YouTuber to “engage younger audiences with the story”.

Microsoft and The National Trust both hope the project will inspire young people across the UK to take an interest in historical monuments and try to recreate them in the game.

Grian hopes the project will allow educators to see the value of video games as a tool for classroom learning.

Speaking of the project, he said: “I look forward to seeing people rebuild the ruins in their own way.

“The fact that this will have an impact on education makes this project very special to me.

“Using games to enhance learning is something I’ve never experienced in school, but I’m so glad some students are getting into it today!”

Papworth commended Grian for his work, particularly for the accuracy and imagination he brought to Dorset’s landmarks.

Of Grian he said: “Not only has he achieved an accurate recreation of the various historical styles within the castle grounds, but he has also miraculously combined them with his own imagination.

“We can’t wait to see more inspiring designs from even more young minds!”

Minecraft is the perfect game to build anything you can imagine.

It has a large number of materials to work with, allowing players to build virtually any idea they have from the game’s block pieces.

Players have already recreated a number of stunning in-game locations, such as the Imperial Summer Palace and Middle-earth from Lord of the Rings.
