The 18-year-old Pedri has extended his contract with financially troubled FC Barcelona for a long time. If he wants to leave earlier, he can do so – but only for a fantastic transfer fee.
The Spanish top club FC Barcelona has agreed with its young star Pedri on a contract extension with a historically high release clause of one billion euros. The club announced on Thursday. The signature should take place on Friday, the contract runs until 2026. It is the highest release clause in the club’s history. That of superstar Lionel Messi had once been 700 million euros.
For the financially stricken Catalans, the contract extension after Messi’s departure in the summer is a success. Pedri had matured into a regular at Barça last season and played for the Spanish national team in both the European Championship and the Olympics. The 18-year-old, who was courted by numerous top clubs in Europe, is considered the “new” Andres Iniesta.
