Djokovic is currently not eligible for a visa due to his unvaccinated status

According to the current rules, Djokovic is not allowed to enter the USA because he is not vaccinated and therefore cannot currently take part in the next Grand Slam in New York.

WIMBLEDON – Novak Djokovic says he has “weathered the storm” of his Australian Open debacle to win Wimbledon but faces even more emotional turmoil as he awaits “good news” from the United States government, which will allow him to play the US Open next month.

According to the current status, he will not be able to play at the Australian Open either. Because of last year’s legal battle, which ended with his deportation in January, he is subject to a three-year visa ban.

“That [deportation] caused turbulence in me. I just needed time to weather the storm,” Djokovic said.

“At some point I realized it just takes time and that is it, time for me to regroup to get into optimal balance on and off the court.

“I liked my chance to get to Wimbledon. As always, I’m very inspired to play my best tennis in London.”

Not everyone expected him to come back from Melbourne so quickly and win his 21st Grand Slam by beating Nick Kyrgios.

“Some people don’t recover. They will never play tennis,” said his coach Goran Ivanisevic.

“It was a big shock. Was a shock for me and I was there. i was free Introduce yourself for him.

“Unbelievable how he recovered and how he got through it. For me it’s really heroic because it wasn’t easy to digest all those things and play tennis again.”

However, Djokovic’s only certainty for the rest of the summer is that he will take several weeks off to rest after a “tiring” series of tournaments. With the remainder of the US tour taking in tournaments in Atlanta, Washington, Cincinnati and finally New York, the seven-time Wimbledon champion will be keeping an eye on the political situation in America and hoping for a stroke of luck.

“I will hopefully wait for good news from the US because I would really like to go there,” Djokovic added.

“That would probably be the next big tournament, the next big swing, to play a tournament or two before the US Open and the US Open.”

He also said: “I am not vaccinated and do not intend to be vaccinated so the only good news I can have is that they are rescinding the mandate.

“I don’t think Liberation [as he was initially granted in Australia] is realistically possible.”
