The 2022 Open is finally here and St Andrews is hosting the 150th edition at the historic Old Course. Tiger Woods is back, Rory McIlroy heads into the week as a favorite and defending champion Collin Morikawa is among a star-studded field looking to make more history at the Home of Golf.
Jack Nicklaus once said, “Your career isn’t complete until you win an Open Championship at Home of Golf,” and Woods admitted he agrees as he tries to start the final phase of an incredible comeback after winning the US Open missed due to staying had impact of this serious car accident in 2021.
It was an Open to remember last time at St Andrews in 2015, when Zach Johnson clinched a second Major title when he defeated Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman in a four-hole play-off, leaving Jordan Spieth agonizingly just one Schlag was away from joining their quest for a calendar grand slam.
“This is going to be a special week of golf and having many of the sport’s great champions and future stars play at this event is a great way to celebrate this historic championship,” said Woods. “St. Andrews has such a unique atmosphere and I look forward to playing in front of the fans again and on a pitch that will hold fantastic memories for me.”
