For years, the “Sportschau Club” accompanied football-loving spectators into the night. That’s over now. The program, which was often broadcast following live broadcasts, is pulped.
In the future, ARD will do without the “Sportschau Club”. The TV station confirmed a corresponding report by “Bild” on Wednesday. The talk show started in 2012 as the successor to “Waldis Club” and was mostly broadcast after football broadcasts.
“Unfortunately we can no longer acquire or implement certain rights and formats due to the lack of financial feasibility. For this reason we unfortunately have to do without such an established program as the ‘Sportschau Club’ as a regular format,” said ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky the “picture”.
Balkausky continues: “The ‘Sportschau Club’ has provided us with very profound insights into the lives of athletes and coaches for many years and, thanks to Alexander Bommes and the entire editorial and production team, it has achieved its own remarkable profile,” says Balkausky.
Most recently, the “Sportschau Club” with the moderation duo Esther Sedlaczek and Micky Beisenherz had several episodes with more than a million viewers during the European Football Championship. In its early days, the show was moderated by Gerhard Delling, Reinhold Beckmann and Matthias Opdenhövel. From 2013 Alexander Bommes mostly took over the moderation.
