In the Netherlands there was a fatal car accident near the German border. Also involved was a professional soccer player who is now being interrogated by the police.
After a fatal car accident, the Dutch professional footballer Rai Vloet was arrested by the honorary division officer Heracles Almelo. Sports director Tim Gilissen confirmed the arrest of the 26-year-old midfielder from the club of German coach Frank Wormuth.
The vehicle with Vloet and a 27-year-old passenger had crashed into the car of a family of four on Autobahn 4 near Hoofdorp in the province of North Holland. A four year old boy died in the accident. The other three inmates suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized. Vloet and his companion, whom the Dutch police also arrested, were unharmed in the crash.
The police are still investigating the fitness of Vloet and his passenger to drive. It is not yet clear whether the son of the former coach Wiljan Vloet and the second man in the accident vehicle were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.
