Throughout his career, N’Keal Harry has been criticized for his inability to create a break from opposing defenders. It appears the e New England Patriots are trying to part ways with the disappointing young receiver.

The Patriots are one step closer to officially cutting ties with Harry.

Per Pro Football Focus’ Ari MeirovHarry was on a list of 11 players drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft whose teams declined their option for the fifth year of the 2022 season.

Does that mean Harry will definitely not be with the Patriots in 2022? No, but he’s currently slated to become full free agency after the upcoming season, which would make it much easier for the Patriots to release or trade him, much like they did with Sony Michel just before the start of the 2021 campaign

To say Harry has been a disappointment since being drafted 32nd in the 2019 NFL Draft is an understatement. Harry just didn’t live up to the predictions many had that he was coming from Arizona State as a highly touted downfield threat. He was also eclipsed by the performance of others drafted behind him in his class – including his teammate and undrafted free agent Jakobi Meyers.

When you look at what guys like Philadelphia Eagles new receiver AJ Brown, Deebo Samuel and DK Metcalf have accomplished in the NFL, Harry’s lack of production is an easy mark for critics.

Among eligible players drafted in 2019, Harry ranks 22nd in receptions. Every player ranking above him in that category has been drafted after Harry, and that includes two fifth-rounders (Hunter Renfrow and Darius Slayton) and six-round RB (Ty Johnson) and a seventh-round returnee (Myles Gaskin).

Based on this production, the Patriots would apparently be wise to attempt to trade away from Harry if they can get someone to offer even a meager asset.

Ahead of the 2021 season, Harry and his agent Jamal Tooson requested a trade, but the Patriots didn’t move it. Instead, Harry endured another mostly unproductive season on the New England depth charts.

Still, according to Toolson, there is reason for optimism. Tooson says he’s had a “positive dialogue” with the Patriots about the team pursuing a trade to help its client make a fresh start elsewhere.

There are teams in the NFL that are almost certainly willing to give Harry a second chance. However, it remains to be seen whether a team will be willing to part ways with even a late-round pick for a player who hasn’t proven he can make a difference in the NFL.

It seems more likely that Harry will be released and given a chance to sign with a team that will give him a chance to make a difference. Don’t rule out the possibility that Harry might end up with the Chicago Bears. Justin Fields is in dire need of weapons in the passing game and Harry could be a low-risk, high-reward addition to a team building a recovery.
