MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly rekindled their interest in Chelsea target Jules Kounde.
The Red Devils were considering moving the 22-year-old Sevilla star this summer before signing Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
And, according to Fichajes, they are considering another change of the central defender in January.
Varane will be “absent for a few weeks” after sustaining a groin injury and Harry Maguire is also out with calf problems.
Kounde may not resolve United’s short-term injury crisis but he would provide top-notch support as Eric Bailly is expected to leave.
However, United will face stiff competition from Chelsea, who tried to sign the Frenchman over the summer.
The Blues were desperate to catch him but were reluctant to activate his £ 68m release clause.
Both clubs were on the verge of hitting a £ 43m deal for the Frenchman just to allow the La Liga side to raise their asking price after Kurt Zouma’s move to West Ham.

The failed transfer reportedly infuriated Kounde at the Seville board after negotiating personal terms with the West London team.
The defender could still join Chelsea in January, however, but ESPN say that will only happen if the Spanish team lower their requirements.
They claimed that Chelsea are only willing to pay £ 43m more.
Should Sevilla be ready to resume negotiations, the Champions League title will not hesitate to conquer the ex-Bordeaux ace.
Regarding Chelsea’s failed move to Kounde, Seville coach Julen Lopetegui confirmed that the Premier League giants hadn’t offered enough money.
He told Diario de Sevilla: “Kounde stayed at the end because the club decided it was the right one based on the evaluation of the offers on offer.
“For me as a coach, it is positive that Jules is staying.

“The development he has made in these two years is without a doubt positive.”
Thomas Tuchel also said afterwards: “It was clear that we would do it for Kounde and Saul. tried [Niguez] and it was very, very late, but it was a very, very smooth transfer window because I could fully concentrate on training and my team. “
Chelsea are said to introduce Kounde as a replacement for Antonio Rüdiger, who left the contract at the end of the season and could go on a free transfer.
