Derby administrators have confirmed that potential buyer Chris Kirchner has failed to meet a deadline to prove he has the funds to buy the club.

Kirchner, who was named as the preferred bidder in April, had until 5 p.m. Friday to demonstrate his ability to close the deal.

A statement from Quantama’s administrators read: “Following our update last night, and despite the parties’ best efforts, Mr. Kirchner has not yet provided us with satisfactory evidence of his ability to complete the acquisition of the Club – even if he continues to do so.” is working.

“The Joint Administrators are continuing discussions with other interested parties. Contrary to current media reports, no interested party was excluded from these talks.”

It appears that American businessman Kirchner is still pursuing the deal, having exchanged contracts with the joint administrators on May 16.

The English Football League, which had conditionally approved Kirchner’s ownership, said on Thursday it was “incredibly disappointed” by the latest hiccup in the process and called for an “urgent solution”.
