UFC superstar Dustin Poirier has been linked with a possible next fight with Michael Chandler.

Poirier has been out of action since his last match against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 in December 2021. After a second failed shot at the gold, “Diamond” was looking to explore his options going forward as he considered a move up to welterweight at the next showing.

Fan favorite Nate Diaz was originally scheduled to face Poirier after they verbally agreed to fight each other online. However, all talk of the clash fizzled out after interest in the promotion died out. It was surprising given the star power of both men, but Diaz was in the last fight of his current contract and had teamed up with the UFC to extend it further.

Tiki Ghosn, Poirier’s manager, has apparently confirmed that the former interim UFC lightweight champion is likely to face Chandler on his return to competition.

ESPN’s Brett Okamato shared Ghosn’s update online, tweet: “asked Dustin Poiriers (@DustinPoirier) Representative Tiki Ghosn (@tikighosn) for an update.

“Looks like it’s gonna be Michael Chandler (@MikeChandlerMMA). Sounds like he wants the smoke and Dustin will give it to him.” However, UFC has yet to come forward.

He followed up with another tweet: “First of all it’s clear@DustinPoirier just want a booked fight.”

After a historic win over Tony Ferguson, “Iron” Mike became the first man to finish “El Cucuy,” a feat he accomplished with a fatal front kick to the face worthy of knockout of the year at UFC 274 in May.

during a media Looks For UFC London, Chandler had hinted at a showdown with Poirier next.

“‘Hey Conor, whenever you’re ready to come back, whenever you’re ready, whenever the leg is 100 percent healed,’ because the mixed martial arts sport, the UFC as a promotion, is better with Conor McGregor,” he said .

“But we need to see a healthy Conor McGregor in the octagon so he doesn’t have to rush back. We’ll see when he comes back. I dont wait.

“Right now me and Poirier are the only guys not in the top five. There is no secret that Dustin Poirier and I were on a collision course to enter the octagon.”

“I think you’re going to be hearing some fight news pretty soon and it could be me and Dustin Poirier, we’ll see.”

After an epic promo by Chandler calling out McGregor, Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje, Poirier objected to his name being omitted.

Chandler later stated that he had no interest in facing Poirier, claiming the “diamond” ignored his arrival on the big stage.

At UFC 276’s International Fight Week card, the two faced each other in a brief scuffle allegedly initiated by Poirier and had to be separated by UFC officials and security guards at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With all the other senior 155lbs contenders booked for their next fight, a collision between Chandler and Poirier appears set to happen.
