Louis van Gaal will keep his distance in the decisive World Cup qualifier for the Netherlands. The coaching legend follows the game of his team after falling from a comfortable box.

The injured Dutch national coach Louis van Gaal will not watch his team’s decisive World Cup qualifier from the sidelines after all. The “Bondscoach” will watch the game against Norway on Tuesday evening from a skybox box, reported the Dutch media on Tuesday, citing the KNVB football association. But he is in direct telephone connection with his assistants Danny Blind and Henk Fraser on the bench.

Van Gaal fell while riding his bike on Sunday night after training and broke a bone on his hip. At first he wanted to be there in a wheelchair on the sidelines. However, this is problematic for technical reasons, as the KNVB explained.

The 70-year-old wants to be with the team in the dressing room both before the game and at half-time. But there is not enough time to cross the field twice during the break to get to the cabins.

In the evening, Oranje meets Norway at De Kuip in Rotterdam (from 8.45 p.m. in the t-online live ticker). In the event of a defeat, the Netherlands threatens to end the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
