The interloper stopped play five minutes into the second half at Lusail Stadium before being stopped by security and removed from the field
A man invaded the pitch at the Portugal vs Uruguay game with a Pride flag and a t-shirt that read ‘Save Ukraine’.
The interloper stopped play five minutes into the second half at Lusail Stadium before being stopped by security and removed from the field.
The man’s t-shirt also read “Respect for Iranian Women” on the back.
He entered the field just moments before Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Portugal.
The incident comes after Fifa reversed its decision to ban rainbow colors at the event – after it was widely criticized.
Persons attempting to bring flags and items of clothing bearing the rainbow colors were stopped by security personnel at the venues throughout the competition.
Among those stopped were Welsh fans, who wore bucket hats with the colors in the nation’s first game against the USA last Monday.
The tournament comes amid anti-government protests currently taking place in Iran.
The protests were triggered by the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in police custody on September 16.
