Matthew Pottinger is married to his wife Yen Pottinger. The former Trump National Security Council official was subpoenaed Thursday, July 21, 2022, to testify at the January 6, 2022 House Select Committee hearings.

Pottinger and his wife have two children, according to the Washington Post.

The July 21 hearing focused on former President Donald Trump’s inaction to stop supporters breaching the US Capitol as lawmakers gathered to confirm President Joe Biden’s election, according to CNN.

Democratic Representative Elaine Luria of Virginia and GOP Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois will conduct the hearing. Luria told CNN the committee will go over Trump’s actions “pretty much minute by minute.”

“He didn’t do anything to actually stop the uprising,” she told CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the Union.

Here’s what you need to know:

Yen Pottinger is a virologist who worked at the Centers for Disease Control specializing in HIV and tuberculosis. According to the Miller Center, she worked with the CDC in its Global HIV and TB Division. While serving with the CDC, she developed a laboratory test to measure HIV incidence. This test has become the global standard in HIV surveillance studies, the Miller Center reported.

Yen and Matthew Pottinger have two children together, according to the Miller Center.

Matthew Pottinger resigned immediately after the attack on the US Capitol, he said during the hearing.

“One of my staff brought me a printout of a tweet from the President, and the tweet said that Mike Pence, the Vice President, didn’t have the courage to do what he should have done. I – I read that tweet and in that moment I made the decision to resign. That’s where I knew I was going that day after reading that tweet,” he said in a clip played during the hearing.
