The Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Brigade said crews were responding to the Daymark restaurant in Barnegat when attendees at a wedding on the building’s second floor reported the floor was collapsing.
21 September (News) — Firefighters were responding to a wedding reception in New Jersey when the second floor floor began to cave in under the revelers.
“The floor did not collapse but collapsed, leaving the structure unsafe for the interim,” the department said in a Facebook post.
Firefighters credited the DJ at the wedding party for announcing the problem and making sure everyone got out of the building safely.
Newlyweds Cassidy and Brian Gagliardotto said the reception had just started with about 200 guests when the floor began to collapse.
“Our DJ just started and we were in like three songs,” Brian Gagliardotto told WABC-TV. “Luckily we were able to bring in all of our first dances and all of our speeches.”
Firefighters said Daymark will remain closed until the building is structurally sound.
The couple said the wedding reception continued at a new location.
“We knew where my parents lived and we moved there and the party just kept going,” said Brian Gagliardotto.
