19 Sep (News) — US military officials said their Green Village military base in northeastern Syria was the target of a failed missile attack on Sunday.
US Central Command said in a brief statement that shortly after 7 p.m. local time, three 107mm rockets were fired at the base where US and coalition forces and equipment are stationed.
Details of attack and defense were not given.
Officials said a fourth missile was found along with missile tubes at the launch site, about 3 miles from the base.
It wasn’t immediately clear who was behind the attacks, either, but it comes after three US soldiers were injured in an August 24 attack on the base.
US authorities said Iran-backed militants were behind the attack in late August. In response, US forces attacked two locations in Syria, destroying three vehicles and equipment used by the militants to launch their missiles. Two or three suspected backers of the rocket launch were also killed, it said, citing initial assessments.
US officials said they were investigating Sunday’s attack.
