Three people die after a Russian military plane crashes and catches fire

According to reports, three people died and six were injured when a military plane caught fire and crashed in western Russia.

Deaths were reported shortly after Friday morning (June 24). Transport aircraft IL-76 had to make an emergency landing in a field near the city of Ryazan.

According to the Moscow news agency Interfax, a total of nine people were on board the plane at the time of the accident.

Footage released to social media shows a line of fire engines and an ambulance facing large flames.

The fire can be seen billowing out dark black smoke in front of a line of trees.
