The cancellations have left thousands of passengers stranded at the airport and unable to fly.

A Heathrow Airport spokesman said there would be “minor changes to today’s flight schedule due to the weather”.

They added: “We want to reassure passengers that our colleagues are working closely with our airlines and air navigation service providers to get them safely on their journey as quickly as possible.

“We encourage passengers to check with their airline for the latest information.”

Nicola Fowler and her daughter flew back from Newark, New Jersey this morning (Monday, January 23).

Since they had landed early, Nicola figured they would be making their connecting flights.

However, problems with the fog caused delays, meaning they missed their connecting flights and had to rebook.

Nicola flies to Manchester and said: “There are no confirmed flights until tomorrow. But I’m on a standby flight at 12:45pm. My daughter has a confirmed flight at 7pm but that means a 12 hour delay for her.”

“We’re hoping the standby thing actually works for us because everyone’s running late. They expect other people to be affected throughout the day while we are affected.”

Marisa Varas has flown to Heathrow from Vancouver and is flying to Barcelona.

Her connecting flight was also canceled. She got a hotel voucher and stayed there.

She says they have no British money because they went to Europe from Canada.

She said it was “very inconvenient because we have people waiting to pick us up on the other side and everything had to be rescheduled.”
