A 48-year-old private investigator tracking Catherine Lugner was sentenced to 10 months conditional prison term after using confidential police records to spy on the newly divorced model

A detective in Austria has been arrested after using confidential police data to spy on a former Playboy model.

An unnamed 48-year-old was sentenced to a conditional prison sentence of 10 months for “stalking” and repeated “espionage attacks” on Catherine “Cathy” Lugner, 31 – ex-wife of the eccentric real estate magnate Richard Lugner.

According to, he was imprisoned for abuse of office, violation of official secrecy and grossly negligent violation of personal freedom.

The detective was arrested in front of his colleagues in Vienna after he was accused of requesting confidential information about Lugner, an investigation based on anonymous information.

The detective had previously claimed that he had “an official tip that I followed”.

His lawyer Marcus Januschke claimed that the entire process was a conspiracy against his client, whom he described as a “policeman with body and soul”.

The public prosecutor argued, however, that “the police officer abused his office, willfully violated data rights like those of Ms. Lugner”.

The detective was also found guilty of failing to promptly submit an expert opinion to the judiciary in a drug case in which an arrested suspect was exonerated.

As a result, the suspect in the drug case was held in custody longer than necessary, but it is unclear how long.

The detective was also found guilty of sending his wife screenshots from an investigation file to show her that he was still at work.

The officer was reportedly suspended from his job for three years at a separate disciplinary hearing.
