A man arrested in Norway for a bow and arrow attack had converted to Islam and the police contacted the man in 2020 because he feared he had been radicalized
The suspect arrested and questioned last night is a 37-year-old Danish national.
He is accused of murdering five people – four women and one man – and injuring several others last night in the city of Kongsberg near the Norwegian capital Oslo.
Those killed in the attack were all between 50 and 70 years old.
The police were made aware of the attack and confronted the attacker at 6:12 p.m. (CEST), six minutes after the attack began. However, the attacker escaped this initial confrontation and was not caught by the Norwegian police until 6:47 p.m., 35 minutes after the attack began.
Regional police chief Ole Bredrup Saeverud said all five victims were likely killed in the period between the first encounter with police and his arrest.
