Tennessee gets its first big test of the season with Villanova after driving past two middle cadres. For Villanova it is the second top 25 match in a week.

“Well, I think players and coaches, we all like big games,” Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes said of Sports Illustrated’s Volunteer Country. “I’ve always said that in the non-league you can only win big games if you play them.”

The Tennessee Volunteers led Tennessee-Martin in their 90-62 season opener on November 9th. Tennessee then defeated East Tennessee State 94-62 on November 14.

Villanova, a Sweet 16 squad last season, already has a game against a Power Five conference at UCLA. The Wildcats fell close to an 86-77 loss to the Bruins on Nov. 12, and the Wildcats slipped out a 10-point lead.

“They gutted it and we didn’t,” Villanova coach Jay Wright told the Associated Press.

Justin Moore leads the Wildcats with 19 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Preseason All-American Selection Collin Gillespie scores 17.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals per contest. Fifth year star Jermaine Samuels was solid with 16 points, 4.3 rebounds and 17.7 assists per game.

“You are two great leaders who have been on this program for some time,” said Moore of Gillespie of Dan Gelston of the Associated Press.

Eric Dixon leads Villanova with six rebounds per game. He also scores an average of nine points, 1.7 assists and a steal night. Brandon Slater averages 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per night.
