Police said a Prius driver pulled out of the parking lot as the teenager tried to get out of the way.

“To avoid the vehicle that came from the Vallarta market, [the teen] swerved at high speed and pulled into the northbound lanes off Foothill Boulevard and proceeded straight ahead in this silver Toyota truck,” said LAPD Sgt. John Matassa.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota pickup, identified only as a 56-year-old man, was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries, police said.

Further information was not initially available. The collision is under further investigation.
