A representative from Grand Island Public Schools stressed that no student was hurt by financial literacy teacher Philip Zlomke, who could face a life sentence if convicted

A US teacher from Grand Island, Nebraska, faces a life sentence after being arrested on charges of sexual assault and incest.

Philip Zlomke was taken into custody at the school just after 8 a.m. Thursday, Hall County chief deputy Josh Berlie said.

“No classes were interrupted and our students and staff all remained safe,” the school said in a report.

Zlomke was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault related to incidents in October 2021.

In this case, according to local police, the victim was an adult.

According to court documents, the 40-year-old teacher faces first-degree and third-degree sexual assault on a child, first-degree sexual assault and two counts of incest in a separate case.

The affidavit in this case has been sealed.

Zlomke was released on the two previous charges on March 17 after posting 10% of a $200,000 bond.

Chief Deputy Josh Berlie of the Hall County Sheriff’s Department stressed that the charges had nothing to do with students or anyone associated with the schools where Zlomke teaches.

Zlomke is a finance teacher at Westridge Middle School in Grand Island.

He added that GIPS is cooperating with the sheriff’s office in conducting their investigation.

Roush went on to say that if parents have any questions about this case, they urge them to contact the sheriff’s office.

Zlomke appeared before Judge Alfred Corey in Hall County Court, where his bail was set at $200,000 with a 10% minimum payment. He was forbidden any contact with the victim.

He has reportedly paid bail and is currently at large.

According to court documents, charges against Zlomke are scheduled to be brought before the district court on July 12 in both cases.
