Incredible drone footage shows the moment two Russian tanks drive into a minefield in Ukraine and explode one after the other as the war rages on.

The aerial photos show a stationary BMP billowing with smoke while the rear tank hastily tries to overtake before appearing to detonate a mine under its tracks.

The two Soviet vehicles then appear to explode, shooting smoke and debris into the sky.

“Two Russian BMPs headfirst into a minefield, a Ukrainian drone watches the findings unfold,” one person said in a viral post on Reddit.

The BMP-1 is a Soviet amphibious infantry fighting vehicle. BMP stands for Boyevaya Mashina Pyekhoty 1, meaning “Infantry Fighting Vehicle, 1st Series Model”.

The BMP-1 was the Soviet Union’s first mass-produced infantry fighting vehicle (IFV).

Reports from the UK Ministry of Defense seem to confirm that Russia may have lost “a third of its ground forces” to Ukraine since the invasion began.

In light of the reports, the Defense Ministry said Russian troops in eastern Ukraine had “lost momentum” and are now “significantly behind schedule”.

“Russian forces are increasingly being constrained by degraded capabilities, persistently low morale and reduced combat effectiveness.

“Many of these capabilities cannot be replaced or restored quickly and will likely continue to hamper Russian operations in Ukraine.

“Under current conditions, Russia is unlikely to dramatically accelerate its rate of advance over the next 30 days.”

NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana also appeared to endorse the UK MoD’s assessments, claiming that Ukrainian troops may be able to defeat Russia.

He also said: “The brutal invasion of Russia is losing momentum.

“With significant support from allies and partners in the billions, military support, financial support, humanitarian support, we know that with the bravery of the Ukrainian people and army, and with our help, Ukraine can win this war.”

The claims come after Ukraine confirmed that its forces have retaken villages from Russian troops located north of Ukraine’s second-largest city of Kharkiv and pushed them back towards the Russian border.
