SoCal Asian American community leader discusses how Monterey Park shooting impacts community

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Asian American community has been marred by a recent surge in violence. The Monterey Park mass shooting has created a new sense of trauma and security concerns.

Connie Chung Joe is CEO of Southern California-based Asian Americans Advancing Justice, the nation’s largest legal and civil rights organization for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.

She spoke to Eyewitness News about the impact of the shooting on the community.

“Whatever the shooter’s intent, the implications are clear to our Asian American community,” Joe told ABC7’s David Ono. “We are traumatized, distressed and saddened by this massive loss of life. At this disruption to our Lunar New Year celebration.”
