The SNL Rittenhouse sketch from November 13, 2021 Weekend update gets attention. the Weekend update Anker mocked Kyle Rittenhouse’s testimony in which he began to cry on the stand, citing a law school for “white tears,” and comparing Rittenhouse to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
You can watch the video later in this article.
Kyle Rittenhouse is the 18-year-old man on trial in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for the deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and the shooting of Gaige Großkreutz. He claims self-defense; the shootings came after nightly riots, protests and arson following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. The officer who shot Blake was later acquitted by the prosecutor.
The process has garnered national attention and generated myriad memes, so it’s no surprise that Saturday Night Live decided to use it as fodder for a sketch.
Here’s what you need to know:
The weekend update with Colin Jost and Michael Che started mocking Steve Bannon and Taylor Swift.
“Never break up with Taylor Swift or she’ll sing about you for 10 minutes on national television. At least give the scarf back, ”joked Jost.
Bannon was “shot out of a sewer pipe,” he continued.
Then they turned to Rittenhouse and used a photo of the crying defendant on the witness stand.
“Legal experts say Kyle Rittenhouse, who cries in the stands as he describes how he shot his victims, will help him with the jury,” Che said. “Man, is there a law school with white tears that I don’t know about? I can tell because every time you all get in trouble you start crying and everything just works for you, whether you’re trying to punch a murder charge or trying to be a chief judge. “
Here is the moment when Rittenhouse burst into tears.
They then showed a picture of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh from the nomination hearings. Here is a video of it.
Kavanaugh was upset because he said he was falsely charged with gang rape and other crimes against women.
Rittenhouse supporters criticized SNL on Twitter. “In 20 years, Kyle Rittenhouse will host SNL.” wrote one.
“Maybe the innocent Kyle Rittenhouse can accommodate snl.” wrote another.
But his opponents liked the sketch. “Every time I see the killer Kyle Rittenhouse cry, it makes me angry and disgusted #SNL.” wrote a woman.
Other Rittenhouse critics have made the Brett Kavanaugh analogy. Rittenhouse collapsed on the stand when he was asked to tell what happened when he shot Rosenbaum, the first man to die. Video, testimony and Rittenhouse himself say that Rosenbaum chased Rittenhouse, who ran away, into the corner of a car park. Rittenhouse then turned and shot Rosenbaum at close range. A coroner previously said Rosenbaum was no more than three feet away when Rittenhouse shot him. Rittenhouse then ran down the street and fell; Anthony Huber lunged at him and hit him with a skateboard and tried, as video and testimony showed, to grab Rittenhouse’s gun. Rittenhouse shot him. Then he shot Gaige Großkreutz, who testified that he was advancing on Rittenhouse after pointing a gun at Rittenhouse at close range when Rittenhouse fired.
Others also made the Kyle Rittenhouse-Brett Kavanaugh analogy. “Just say, guys like Kyle Rittenhouse become guys like Brett Kavanaugh, who make the rules for guys like Kyle Rittenhouse.” wrote one.
Another man explained, “The Rittenhouse trial feels like an SNL sketch.”
