Air Force military have been called to help in a desperate search after a helicopter carrying seven people went missing mid-flight in Italy – their whereabouts unknown

A private helicopter carrying a group of seven people on board has sparked a huge search party after it disappeared in Italy.

Rescue teams have launched a frantic hunt for the plane, which was due to arrive in Treviso within an hour of taking off from Lucca’s Capannori Lucca Tassignano Airport.

However, the helicopter mysteriously disappeared from radar, sparking concern among officials who sounded the alarm.

The search mission, which took place between the regions of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, had to be abandoned last night (June 10) and resumed this morning.

The helicopter is believed to have been leased from a company called Roto Court, which makes hygiene products and household chemicals.

Company boss Giuliano Gelain said they were “confident” the helicopter hadn’t crashed because no distress signal had been received.

He said the helicopter was flying customers to and from the sites twice a day, ANSA news agency reports

Gelain added: “I’m confident it didn’t crash, otherwise, according to technicians, an alarm signal would have been sent, which we never received.”

The helicopter was carrying the Italian pilot and six others – including four Turkish nationals and two Lebanese, reports La Stampa.

They left the airport at 9.30am local time on Thursday 10 June and were scheduled to land at 10.30am the same day.

An emergency landing in a remote area could still be a possibility, according to the local Reggio site.

The rescue included the help of the Air Force military, 24 volunteers from the Emilia-Romagna Regional Civil Protection and more.
