Brit fighters Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin held captive by Russian forces have been branded ‘scum’ by fuming pal of Vladimir Putin, deputy defense chair Dmitry Medvedev, in a fuming Telegram post

Two Brit fighters have been branded “scum” by Russia, with a fuming pal of Russian President Vladimir Putin saying the pair will “will have to answer in full for their actions”.

Shaun Pinner, 48, and Aiden Aslin, 28, were targeted by the deputy head of the Kremlin’s powerful security council, Dmitry Medvedev.

The former Russian president and prime minister said the pair would not be treated as combatants under the Geneva Conventions, meaning they would not receive the rights of a prisoner of war.

Medvedev’s show trials for the two men come after a failed swap deal for Putin’s “prince of darkness” Viktor Medvedchuk, currently held by Ukrainian forces.

The British captives have made an appeal to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson several times on multiple Russian state TV outlets.

Medvedev is seen as a close ally of Vladimir Putin and is current deputy chair of Russia’s security council.

The deputy chair made clear that other volunteers helping Ukraine in combat, which Russia sees as mercenaries, would face “deNazification” or death if captured.

Medvedev said: “For us, mercenaries are not volunteers at all. They are not legitimate combatants, they are not subject to the Geneva Conventions.”

His post to the app Telegram continued: “Foreign mercenaries in Ukraine who do not surrender to our troops, together with their mentors from Bandera, are subject to deNazification in the first place.

“They will have to answer in full for their actions. Of course, if they stay alive.”

Medvedev also claimed that many “scum” foreign fighters did not realize the extent of the fighting, saying they had been “promised safari on the Russians – it turned out that there is a real military operation”.

The deputy chair of security fumed: “A significant part of these scum rushed home… Not only you can shoot, but [the bullets are fired] at you.”

Russia also expects to sweep up NATO officers with its push towards Donbas, with pundit Marat Bashirov claiming NATO fighters are secretly embedded in Ukrainian forces.

Bashirov said: “We could flatten them out with FAB-3000 bombs, but we are on the side of light, besides, we want to take NATO officers alive.”

Medvedev’s words follow warnings on Russian state TV that Pinner and Aslin are “well aware of how uncertain their future is”.

One broadcaster claimed the pair were “lucky” that they were being treated so well.
