Northeast police have issued a drink-driving appeal after arresting a driver five times over the legal alcohol limit.
Police officers reported that they arrested and charged a 21-year-old driver who was found to be five times above the legal limit.
She is one of hundreds of drivers caught on roads in the northeast this year and police have issued a call as they expect those numbers to spike over the holidays.
North East Road Police Inspector Lorraine Mackie said, “The tragic consequences of alcohol or drug driving are well known and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not acceptable under any circumstances.
“Innocent citizens are put at risk every day by blatant disregard for the law, and the result could be fatal.
“I would like to thank the citizens for their continued support.”
