Nov 27 (News) — Atlanta Police Department officials are investigating a shooting in the Atlantic Station business district that killed at least one person and injured six others.
Officers were called to the scene around 8 p.m. ET Saturday to respond to a report of multiple gunshots being fired. A male victim was found dead and six others were taken to a nearby hospital for injuries. The department’s press release refers to those involved as juveniles.
The initial report named five injured, but WAGA-TV reports one additional person is in critical condition.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that groups of youth were escorted off the property by off-duty security guards from APD and Atlantic Station for disorderly conduct and a violation of Atlantic Station’s curfew,” the release said. “At some point, the youngsters got into an argument that escalated to gunfire.”
Atlanta Police Department Homicide Commander Lt. Germain Dearlove said during a news conference investigators are still working to find a lead, identify those involved and gather information on the suspect, who was not named. He said the people involved are believed to be between the ages of 15 and 21.
While the details of how the shooting erupted are still not clear, Dearlove mentioned the possibility of two shooters.
Atlantic Station has a 3:00 PM curfew for under 18s. After curfew they must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of four or more youth will be broken up.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Atlanta Police Department at 404-577-TIPS.
