Aiken’s Katelyn Moody said she and her husband Austin were boating on Lake Murray over the weekend when she discovered what rubbish she was initially doing in the water.

June 14 (News) — A South Carolina couple tries to unravel the mystery of a message in a bottle they plucked from Lake Murray.

Moody picked up the Bay Bridge wine bottle and discovered that it contained a sandwich bag with a note inside.

The note was littered with positive messages, including “family is everything,” “do whatever you can to help others in need and be happy,” and “may life be like a roll of toilet paper, long and useful.”

Moody posted photos of the bottle and paper to the Lake Murray Life group on Facebook in hopes of identifying the note’s author and finding out how long it was in the water.

Mike Kirk, president of the Lake Murray Association, warned copycats against using glass bottles for messages.

“A boat could hit that bottle at high speed, damage the boat’s spar, damage the prop. A water skier could hit them and sustain bodily harm,” Kirk told WLTX-TV.
