OAP and dog killed by lorry in Ayrshire

An 80-year-old man and his pet Pekingese have died after being hit by a truck.

Jack Ward was walking with Benji on Ayr Road at the junction with Pleasantfield Road in Prestwick, Ayrshire when they were struck by the lorry at around 9.25am on Friday 9 September.

Mr Ward and Benji died at the scene.

Police Scotland’s road accident investigators have asked for information about the tragedy.

Sergeant Scott Gourlay, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Ward’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“An investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information to get in touch.

“We would also be very happy to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone with information or footage should contact officers on 101 quoting reference number 0759 dated September 9.”

A report will be sent to the Fiskal Prosecutor’s Office.
