Man attempted armed robbery of beauty salon in Lanark

Police are seeking clues after a man armed with a gun tried to rob a beauty salon and then stole a poppy seed appeal tin from a supermarket in Lanark.

The attempted robbery and theft occurred on the morning of Saturday, November 13th.

Police say that around 9:40 a.m., a man armed with a gun threatened and asked for money from workers at a beauty salon in North Vennel, Lanark. Despite the threats, the man did not receive any money.

Then he made his way to a nearby supermarket in North Vennel, where he stole a poppy seed appeal can before escaping through Brewery Close onto the High Street.

Police describe the suspect as white, in his 30s, six feet tall and slim. On the morning of the incident, he was seen wearing a black hat, black cloth mask, dark waterproof jacket and dark sweatpants with a white logo on his left thigh.

Detective Chris Smith, Wishaw’s CID, said, “I would ask anyone who was in either North Vennel or the High Street between 9:30 and 9:50 this morning and saw this man in the area to get in touch Also ask drivers to check their dashcam recordings in case they caught the suspect.

“Anyone with information can contact the Wishaw Police Station officers at 101. Please include the reference number 1177 on November 13, 2021 when calling. Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
