Magnitude 6.3 and 6.4 Severe earthquakes shake southern Iranian port city

The Hormozgan province in southern Iran was hit by two major earthquakes on Sunday. So far nothing is known about dead or injured. Rescue teams are on duty.

Two severe earthquakes hit the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan on Sunday. They had the strengths 6.3 and 6.4, as the state television reported, citing local authorities. “So far there have been neither dead nor injured,” it said. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the areas.

According to residents, the vibrations were also felt in Dubai on the other side of the Gulf. The European Seismological Center for the Mediterranean (EMSC) also confirmed the quakes near the port city of Bandar Abbas.
