The unnamed woman had no idea about her life-changing winnings and is now planning to use the mega-fund to buy a new house, car and possibly a family vacation
A woman spent eight months driving around in her car with a lottery winning ticket — and she had no idea of the life-changing sum she’d won.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, bought an £850,000 lottery ticket in New Zealand on a whim, only to forget its existence until eight months later.
She said: “I was waiting for our sushi and thought I’d snag a lottery ticket from the dairy while I was there.
“I put the ticket in the glove compartment when I got back in the car – and then forgot everything.”
“I was waiting for sushi in the same shop when I decided to clean out the glove box and came across the ticket.
“You never think it will be you, do you? To be honest, I totally forgot that I had bought a ticket anyway.”
When she found out she had won the huge sum, she decided to surprise her husband with the news.
But he didn’t believe her, even though she gave him the actual receipt with the prize on it.
She added: “He kept looking at me, then at the receipt and back again. Finally he said, “Is that real?”
“It was so amazing to be able to say, ‘Yes darling, it’s real.’
“He couldn’t believe we’d been driving around in our car for eight months with basically $1 million.
“But we firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, so we have faith that this was when we should find the ticket and claim our prize.
“It brings us so much comfort to know that we have a buffer there as well.”
The woman is now planning to buy a new house, a car and possibly a family vacation.
