In India, a young woman has turned to the authorities with serious allegations. Hundreds of men are said to have raped her. Family members are also among the alleged perpetrators.
A 16-year-old woman has apparently been raped hundreds of times in western India. As reported by the US news medium CNN, the homeless young woman accuses around 400 men. At least seven of them have already been arrested.
According to a statement by the Indian Child Welfare Committee, the rapes took place in Beed district, Maharashtra state. The number of alleged rapists is difficult to confirm. However, the 16-year-old was apparently able to identify 25 suspected perpetrators, according to CNN.
On the one hand, the young woman was sexually abused by her father. She was also raped by a 33-year-old man with whom she was married at the age of 13. Because she ran away from home, she had to beg for money at a bus stop – three more men are said to have taken advantage of this situation and forced her to do sex work.
The 16-year-old also directed her allegations to two police officers, according to CNN. A statement said the police had recorded charges against eight men, including a minor.
According to the Indian authorities, more than 28,000 cases of suspected rape of women were registered in India in 2020. However, the number of unreported cases is significantly higher.
