Surveillance video showed the gun firing at the ground, O’Neal said. It appeared that the discharge was an accident and that the man was not injured.

The man ran from the store, the lieutenant said, noting that it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.

The store was temporarily evacuated while lawmakers investigated the layoff, but returned to normal operations, O’Neal said.

The investigation continued, the sheriff’s station tweeted, and anyone with information was asked to call 661-260-4000 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
