While Florida State owns the series with Florida, the Seminoles are still trying to reach the heights that the Gators reached in the 2000s – winning national titles. FSU has been a regular at Sweet 16 in recent years, but has only made it into the Elite Eight once.

For now, the Seminoles are aiming for their eighth straight win against the Gators when the rivals clash in Gainesville on Sunday. Florida hasn’t won against the Seminoles since 2013.

“Florida is a great school, a great team. I look forward to it every year. I would say it’s probably my favorite game of the year, ”said FSU senior Wyatt Wilkes, according to Curtis Weiler of Tallahassee Democrats.

“I think it means a lot to everyone. I don’t want to be the team that abandons everyone else (and ends the series).

Wilkes, one of the starters, scored four points on November 10, playing 16 minutes in Penn’s 105-70 loss to the Seminoles. The FSU went deep into the bank and played against 16 players. Malik Osborne led the Seminoles with 18 points in 23 minutes.

Florida won its opener on November 9th 74-61 against Elon. Colin Castleton and Myreon Jones led the Gators with 18 points each.

The Gators will have to put aside more than one streak of bad luck in the game against the Seminoles on Sunday. Florida star Keyonate Johnson collapsed on the pitch when the two last met in 2020. Johnson survived but has not played college basketball since.

“Sometimes it feels like it’s only been a few weeks, sometimes it feels like it was so long,” said Gators head coach Mike White, according to Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel. “A really, really tough day, of course.”

Johnson will continue to help for the sideline as he has for a while, noted Thompson. The Gators need to improve at shooting after hitting 42.4% of the field against Elon. The Seminoles held Penn 39.7% and shot past the Quakers 49-29.

Florida’s newcomer Brandon McKissic is looking forward to the challenge, Thompson wrote.
