In July, CDU chancellor candidate Armin Laschet presented his campaign in an exclusive restaurant. After that, large donations were made. In addition to René Benko and Lars Windhorst, another participant is now known.
The illustrious group was probably bigger than previously known: The controversial Austrian real estate investor Cevdet Caner also attended a dinner with Armin Laschet in July 2021. This is reported by the “Spiegel”. The federal CDU had invited to the meeting in the exclusive Berlin “Pan Am” lounge.
The guests from business also included the Austrian department store king René Benko, who owns Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof and the real estate company Signa Holding, as well as the investor Lars Windhorst. A little later, Windhorst donated 250,000 euros to the CDU.
Caner participated as a “private person without a function”, he told the “Spiegel”. He did not do any business or donated anything. The party is silent on the question of how Caner got onto the federal CDU’s guest list. “Internal events” are not commented on, a spokeswoman said according to the report.
The punter Fraser Perring accuses Caner of being involved in an alleged fraud at the German real estate company Adler. Caner secretly took control of the company to enrich himself. Caner himself denies the allegations.
The Berlin public prosecutor’s office is investigating Lars Windhorst, also a guest at dinner, on suspicion of improper banking. The trigger for the proceedings was a criminal complaint from the financial supervisory authority Bafin.
According to a report by the “Stern”, Laschet gave a short speech that evening and outlined his ideas for the future federal government. Later, the guests exchanged ideas in a smaller circle.
