June 22 (News) — Former Miss Brazil Gleycy Correia died on Monday after suffering severe bleeding and a heart attack as a result of complications from routine surgery to remove her tonsils in April.
Correia, 27, has been in a coma since April following complications from tonsillectomy five days earlier.
Correia shared details on social media about her life in Brazil growing up in poverty and described how she started working as a manicurist at the age of 8 to support her poverty-stricken family.
Correia had more than 52,000 followers on her Instagram account, where fans followed her career and beauty tips.
“She went to Unimed and went into cardiac arrest on April 4 and has been in a coma with no neurological activity since,” Priestess Lidiane Alves Oliveira said, according to The Daily Beast. “Today she died.”
Her body was transported to the Forensic Medical Institute of Macae, Brazil, for an autopsy. Correia was buried at a service on Tuesday.
