Texas couple Jared and Kristi Owens were confused after they were told at a Texas airport that their bag was too heavy – until they discovered their pet puppy was in it
A couple were stunned after finding their Chihuahua hidden in their suitcase as they checked in at an airport on their way to Las Vegas.
Jared and Kristi Owens were about to leave Lubbock, about 300 miles west of Fort Worth, when they were told on Sept. 26 that their luggage was overweight.
Jared told Lubbock TV station KCBD, “You weighed it in and this bag is basically like five, five and a half pounds overweight.
“Really fast we say, ‘Oh, we have to rearrange a few things.’
“Open it and literally, our dog comes out of my boot, comes out of my boot with her head jumping up.”
Despite their surprise, the Texas couple said they often bury their Chihuahua named Icky in random places.
Jared added, “She’s the rootler, that’s what she does. She digs herself in clothes, she digs herself in, obviously now suitcases.
The couple said that Southwest Airlines agent Cathy Cook offered to take care of Icky so they wouldn’t miss their flight, the Daily Mail reports.
They praised the friendly agent on Facebook and thanked her publicly on a local TV station.
Jared told KCBD, “You have a goddamn coworker in Cathy.
“She went out of her way and never made us feel like she could have judged us for trying to smuggle a dog into Vegas or anything.
“They never acted like that, they were very friendly. Like I said, she was ready to take care of our dog for us while we were away.
“Thank goodness we found this dog because you would have come to Vegas and probably had a deceased animal in your pocket.”
