North Rhine-Westphalia only wants vaccinated and convalescents to participate in public life. In other federal states, the 2G rule already applies across the board.

As a result of the sharply increasing corona numbers, access restrictions for adults who have not been vaccinated or have recovered are to be introduced across the board in the leisure sector in North Rhine-Westphalia. This was announced by Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting in Düsseldorf. In particularly sensitive areas, “2G plus” should even apply.

This week, numerous other top committees are discussing the tense corona situation: This Wednesday, Wüst will be teaching the state parliament in Düsseldorf in a special session about its corona course. On Thursday, the Prime Ministers of the federal states will discuss a uniform approach together with the Executive Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU). North Rhine-Westphalia chairs the Conference of Prime Ministers (MPK). Also on Thursday, the Bundestag will vote on a reform of the Infection Protection Act. A special meeting of the Federal Council is planned for Friday.

Last week, Wüst had already spoken out in favor of the federal and state governments agreeing on a common “timetable for the winter months” at the MPK. In his opinion, this should include a 2G regulation in the leisure sector and a 3G regulation in the workplace. “3G” stands for vaccinated, recovered, tested.

In Baden-Württemberg, the 2G rule applies from Wednesday in restaurants and museums as well as at most other public events. From Saturday, only those who have recovered or have been vaccinated are allowed to visit restaurants, bars and clubs in Hamburg.

According to the Robert Koch Institute on Tuesday, the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported within seven days in North Rhine-Westphalia rose again significantly. The so-called seven-day incidence was therefore 176.6 (Monday: 167.0). However, North Rhine-Westphalia was still well below the value of 312.4 calculated for the whole of Germany.
