The right-wing Freedom Party of Austria has called for a demonstration against the declared lockdown for unvaccinated people. The populists also rail against the country’s vaccination strategy.

The right-wing FPÖ in Austria continues to make a massive front against the government’s corona measures. As a reaction to the decided lockdown for the unvaccinated, FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl called on Sunday for a demonstration in Vienna the following Saturday. The country now has a “corona apartheid system,” wrote Kickl on Facebook. In addition, he announced a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court for disregard of fundamental rights and freedoms.

The FPÖ has long denounced the restrictions and criticized the vaccination strategy. Kickl spoke of “experimental vaccines” and recommended an anti-parasite drug to treat Covid-19. The right-wing populists in Austria come to around 20 percent in surveys.

From Monday onwards, there will be a lockdown for unvaccinated people in Austria due to the sharp rise in new corona infections. Those who have not been vaccinated or have recovered since a certain point in time are only allowed to leave their homes for compelling reasons. This includes shopping for daily needs, visits to the doctor or even a walk that is deemed necessary. The measure, initially limited to ten days, is to be checked by the police.
