The traffic light coalition is not yet in the towel, as FDP boss Christian Lindner is already looking into the future. He sees the cooperation with the SPD and the Greens as more than an alliance of convenience.

In the opinion of the FDP chairman Christian Lindner, a coalition should also start work with the aim of being re-elected. “A coalition should come up with the intention of being re-elected together,” said Lindner of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Saturday). If you do it differently, it leads to competition within the coalition. “That weakens a constellation as a whole.”

Lindner’s FDP is currently negotiating with the SPD and the Greens to establish a joint federal government. The declared aim of the three parties is to form a government in St. Nicholas Week, i.e. from December 6th. According to information from the German Press Agency from negotiating circles, the talks are to be continued on Saturday.

In this situation, one takes responsibility so that Germany can move forward, Lindner told the newspaper. “We try to combine very different points of view, values and milieus.” A possible traffic light coalition wants to represent the progressive center of the country. But Lindner also said that he wanted to “strive for the FDP that we keep an eye on the interests and concerns of the CDU and CSU voters”. If you take the election programs as a starting point, the traffic light obviously begins as an alliance of convenience. “But more can come of this in the future.”
