Leicester East MP Claudia Webbe, 56, was found guilty on Wednesday of molesting a friend of her partner Lester Thomas.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard that between September 1, 2018 and September 26, 2018
Following the verdict, Ms. Webbe said she was “deeply shocked” by the outcome and would appeal.
She said, “I am innocent and I will appeal this judgment. As I said in court and now repeat, I have never threatened with violence or molested anyone. “
The trial heard the MP make numerous short, silent phone calls from a hidden number before hanging up.
In March 2019, Webbe spoke to her victim, threatening to use acid on her and threatening to share nude photos and videos of the victim. There is no indication that the pictures were real.
Despite being told by police to stop, she continued and made at least 15 more calls after April 2019.
A final threatening phone call in April 2020 was recorded by the victim when Webbe again threatened to post nude pictures, prompting police to interview her.
Specialist Attorney Lisa Rose of the CPS Special Crime Division said, “Claudia Webbe’s continued harassment behavior caused significant concern and concern in her victim, who was seriously concerned for her safety.
“Webbe told the police they didn’t know the calls were unwanted or causing trouble. However, the charge was that the police had given her a clear warning about her behavior.
“Nobody should have to endure this kind of harassment. We are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and protect the victims. “
Webbe’s attorney Raj Chada, chief criminal defense officer at Hodge Jones & Allen Social Justice Law Firm, added, “We will appeal this unfair judgment. The recording of Ms. Webbe’s call has been taken out of context. We are sure that Ms. Webbe will be confirmed in an appeal. “
