In the district of Cuxhaven, a 12-year-old boy died two days after his second vaccination against the corona virus. An autopsy now provides information about the cause of death.

According to the final autopsy report, the vaccination against the coronavirus is not the sole cause of the death of a 12-year-old boy in the Cuxhaven district. According to a statement from the Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI), the child had “a particularly serious, vaccine-independent pre-existing heart disease,” said the district of Cuxhaven on Monday. “Taking into account the extensive medical findings, the vaccination is not to be seen as the sole cause of the fatal outcome,” the statement said.

The child died two days after the second vaccination. “Even if the final assessment of the autopsy result of the child is now available, the tragic loss of your child remains for the family and relatives, which is infinitely painful and affects us all deeply. Our full sympathy belongs to you,” emphasized District Administrator Kai-Uwe Bielefeld (non-party ).

Reported deaths related to a corona vaccination in children and adolescents are extremely rare. The PEI lists five such suspected cases in people between 12 and 17 years of age, which refer to a vaccination with the Biontech agent. According to the PEI, at least three of the adolescents had serious previous illnesses.

So far, according to the Robert Koch Institute, two million people between 12 and 17 years of age in Germany have been fully vaccinated, which corresponds to 43.9 percent (as of November 15, 2021).
