MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KABC) — More than 100 people gathered in Monterey Park Monday night to honor the victims of the mass shooting and to support their families.
Candles and dozens of flowers were placed in an improvised memorial in front of Monterey Park City Hall.
Those who gathered honored the memories of the 11 people killed in a shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio on Saturday.
“We needed to do this so that our community would have an opportunity to experience our grief,” said Ann Lou of Monterey Park. “And to express our condolences to the victims.”
Those who showed up joined in a moment of silence followed by a song of solidarity.
“It was a place for all of these people who are grieving today, all of these people who are grieving, to somehow find comfort and that sense of community and just be one,” said Evan Salazar of Monterey Park. “Can be Monterey Park again.”
Another candlelight vigil is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m
