The Amherst Police Department said in a Facebook post that an officer climbed into the dumpster to rescue a “little bandit” who “got stuck while dumpster diving.”

July 26 (News) — A New York police officer did a dirty job when a raccoon diving into a dumpster was unable to climb back out of the dumpster.

The department said the officer lowered a pallet into the dumpster so the raccoon could climb out, but ended up climbing in on itself when the animal couldn’t make its own exit.

The post said the officer had “applied all of his police academy training for this moment”.
